History

The Norwegian brig Scif, Capt. Carlsen, from Havanah to Gottenburgh with sugar, put in the same day, having on board the captain (Kirkpatrick), and nineteen men, the crew of the barque William Vail from Cardiff for Rio Janerio. which vessel was abandoned in lat. 53 N., long 14 W. on the 21st inst.

Royal Cornwall Gazette, Falmouth Packet, and General Advertiser, Thursday, March 28, 1867

The above article puts her in 53 N when abandoned, other reports put her at 50 N which is more likely as the rescuing vessel landed at Falmouth and 53 N is well out of the way of the voyage of both Vessels
