History

FATAL FIRE ON BOARD SHIP. - At Limerick on Wednesday an inquest was held respecting the deaths of two sailors, Michael Madigan and Thomas Scanlon who perished by the burning of the Thrasher at her moorings on Wednesday morning, when the vessel and her cargo valued at .£2000 were destroyed. A third man supposed to have been burned had fortunately left the ship before the fire broke out. The evidence showed the occurrence to he accidental. The jury censured the Limerick Corporation for their neglect in not taking proper measures to secure the lives and property of the citizens, the water supply having proved totally inadequate.
