COPENHAGEN, Feb.21. The torpedoing of the largest Swedish sailing vessel Hugo Hamilton has caused the greatest excitement in Sweden. The vessel carried a cargo of 4,000 tons of Chile saltpetre.

The Aftonbladet, Stockholm, says that in this case an apology and compensation are not sufficient and Sweden must demand from Germany substitutes of equal importance to Swedish agriculture as the lost Chile saltpetre.

The Times, Thursday, Feb 22, 1917

Shelled and sunk by U-81 crew was saved by the Norwegian steamer Rio De La Plata and landed at Madeira.
