Brig Mantura Liddle of Ardrossan , port of Irvine from leith for Malta ( last from Belfast lough ), struck on the north rock near the southrock lighthouse at five A.M. of the 18th and sunk inside the rock with eight feet of water over her at low water ; crew saved by the coast guard at Cloughey station they had to be taken out by a hauling line along hawser, the sea being very heavy about the rock .Her masts were cut away to keep her from breaking up. Mr Liddle got in to the boat but the rope breaking he was drifted to sea and was providentially saved and landed at donaghadee Two seamen were relieved here from the seamans fund.
