TOTAL LOSS OF THE ELLEN SOPHIA
Loss of All on Board
A telegram received in Liverpool yesterday states that the ship Ellen Sophia under command of Captain Birkett bound from Demerara to Liverpool was lost off Dingle Head near Cork Early on Sunday morning.
When last seen the Ellen Sophia was scudding before the wind and had signals of distress flying. She was evidently endeavouring to enter Smerwick Harbour but ran full on the rocks near Dingle and went down almost immediately. Not a soul on board so far as we can at present learn has been saved.
