LLOYD'S LIST Dec. 12, 1820

Copy of a letter from the mate of the ship Perserverance from Pernambucco for this port to the owners at Liverpool dated Kilrush 4th December 1820

:-"Sir, With trouble I have to inform you of the loss of your ship Perserverance. At ten o'clock at night in Mall Bay with a heavy gale of wind from the S.W. and thich weather the ship was on shore before we saw the land after being ten days without observation. It is with sorrow I have to inform you of the loss of the captain and one man. The ship was in pieces before she was a quarter of an hour on shore the people that were saved and myself were on the rocks until ten o'clock this morning. There are soldiers watching the cargo I expect there is but very little of it saved as the greater part is already washed to pieces. I shall be able to give you a better account when I see you I am in a great hurry now as the post goes off in the morning.
